Helix Nebula

The Helix Nebula (NGC-7293) is 700 light years away from earth towards the constellation Aquarius and it spans 2.5 light years across. In a spaceship going the speed of light it would take 700 years going 670,616,629 miles per hour to get there!

NGC-7293 (Helix Nebula) is one of the closest and brightest examples of what happens to a Sun-like star at the end of its lifetime. The outer gases #expelled into space from our #vantage point appear as if we are #peering down into a #helix shaped nebula; hence, its name.

The light of Helix Nebula (NGC-7293) is so energetic, it causes expelled gases to #fluoresce; in other words, translate absorbed light from a shorter #wavelength to #reradiate at a longer wavelength.
