1\u00a0LABORING TOGETHER [as God’s fellow workers] with Him then, we beg of you not to receive the grace of God in vain [that merciful kindness by which God exerts His holy influence on souls and turns them to Christ, keeping and strengthening them\u2013do not receive it to no purpose].<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2\u00a0For He says, In the time of favor (of an assured welcome) I have listened to\u00a0and<\/em> heeded your call, and I have helped you on the day of deliverance (the day of salvation). Behold, now is truly the time for a gracious welcome\u00a0and<\/em> acceptance [of you from God]; behold, now is the day of salvation! [Isa. 49:8.]<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3\u00a0We put no obstruction in anybody’s way [we give no offense in anything], so that no fault may be found\u00a0and<\/em> [our] ministry blamed\u00a0and<\/em> discredited.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4\u00a0But we commend ourselves in every way as [true] servants of God: through great endurance, in tribulation\u00a0and<\/em> suffering, in hardships\u00a0and<\/em> privations, in sore straits\u00a0and<\/em> calamities,<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5\u00a0In beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless watching, hunger;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6\u00a0By innocence\u00a0and<\/em> purity, knowledge\u00a0and<\/em> spiritual insight, longsuffering\u00a0and<\/em> patience, kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in unfeigned love;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7\u00a0By [speaking] the word of truth, in the power of God, with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand [to attack] and for the left hand [to defend];<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

8\u00a0Amid honor and dishonor; in defaming\u00a0and<\/em> evil report and in praise\u00a0and<\/em> good report. [We are branded] as deceivers (impostors), and [yet vindicated as] truthful\u00a0and<\/em> honest.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

9\u00a0[We are treated] as unknown\u00a0and<\/em> ignored [by the world], and [yet we are] well-known\u00a0and<\/em> recognized [by God and His people]; as dying, and yet here we are alive; as chastened by suffering and [yet] not killed;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

10\u00a0As grieved\u00a0and<\/em> mourning, yet [we are] always rejoicing; as poor [ourselves, yet] bestowing riches on many; as having nothing, and [yet in reality] possessing all things.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
